The DNA Learning Center -- This site provides DNA from the Beginning, "a multimedia primer on the
basics of DNA and heredity." The Resources section offers Bioservers, which allow for
the use of bioinformatics or the use of computers to solve biological problems; Bioforms,
interactive exercises; the Biology Animation Library covering DNA concepts; and Nucleotide

How Fossils
Are Formed -- Colorful graphics and photographs of scientists at
work accompany explanatory text in these excellent pages about fossils from the Royal
Ontario Museum
Plant Fossil Record
-- Although this Website is maintained for botanists, it is a prime
example of
how basic knowledge resources are taking root in the Internet, and it is well worth
looking over as a model of academic digital technology. By clicking first on the Taxonomy
icon, you arrive at an informal system of vascular plant classification based on C.J.
Cleal 1993. The listing here is interactive, allowing you to click down from phylum, to
class, to family, to genus. Other icons lead to ways to search the database by
descriptions and occurrences. Paleo maps can be generated of locations by genus.
Science of
Ballooning -- Filling the mind with Hot Science and lifting
students beyond rote study routines, these pages from PBSs NOVA series are
beautiful, exciting, and informative. The density section comes first, coming down to the
basics of why a balloon leaves the ground and what causes it to come back to Earth. Next
is a rule of thumb for how to tell how far away a balloon is from where you are -- a
clever use of interactive steps through pages to teach a
practical calculation. Excellent small tutorials follow on the atmosphere and the jet
stream.
FDA/CFSAN RFE0 Header
-- This searchable site lists fish and other seafood by market,
common, regional, scientific, and family names. Images of whole fish and market cuts are
provided. Taxonomic (physical characteristics) and other scientific information is
